What is universal design?

This concept is used synonymously with the "design for everyone" and applies to availability with the respect to community planning, design, architecture, service and product development.

As stated: "Universal design means that products, constructions and outdoor areas should be designed som that everyone can use them without special adaptions."

This concept originates in the Used States, more specifically from the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University. The Norwegian Design Council is one of many who have adopted this.

There are seven principles of universal design. One of them applies to comprehensible language. "Design should communicate necessary information to the user in an effective manner."

It is worth nothing that the regulations on universal design are pursuant to the Discrimination an Accessibility Act. An action board has also been established to ensure that these regulations are being practiced. No dispensations for postponements are permitted, according to legal advice.
